Even before the pandemic the higher education system was facing major challenges: declining enrollment, increasing competition, and escalating costs. How can higher education reverse these trends and actually grow its market, while also increasing access to education for traditionally overlooked and excluded potential students – low-income, minority-identity, first generation, and working adults? This is not only the key to the future of postsecondary education but also to the future of social mobility in the U.S. In this session we will address the following questions:
- What are available jobs that provide both short-term employment and future opportunities?
- How should higher education reposition itself for the class of 2022 and beyond?
- What do traditionally underserved students want and need from higher education?
Matt Sigelman, CEO of Lightcast (formerly Burning Glass Technologies), will bring a high-level perspective on trends and developments in our labor market and the corresponding opportunities for our higher education system. Dr. Chris Howard, President of Robert Morris University, will share on-the-ground strategies he and his team are using to partner with industry, attract more students, and land those students in great jobs.
